Hi, I’m Jill —
and I’m mildly obsessed
with Mahjong.
Wine in hand. Tiles on the table. Girlfriends around me. This is my happy place — and I built The Tipsy Tile to share it with you.
The woman behind the tiles
I’m Jill Drummond — Phoenix-based, perpetually enthusiastic, and two years deep into a Mahjong obsession I did not see coming. A girlfriend dragged me to my first game, poured me a glass of wine, and honestly? I never stood a chance. I showed up not knowing a Bam from a Crack. Now I can’t stop talking about everything Mahjong — the new card, strategy, sets, and yes, automatic shuffling tables.
Here’s the truth about me: I am not a competitive Mahjong player. I’m not tracking statistics or memorizing every hand on the card with laser focus. What I AM is someone who genuinely loves the whole experience — the ritual of setting up the tiles, the rhythm of the game, the way a Mahjong night creates this magical little bubble where you laugh harder than you have all week.
That’s what The Tipsy Tile is really about. It’s not a site for serious competitors — though you’re absolutely welcome here too! It’s a resource for women who want to play more Mahjong, play it better, and make their game nights absolutely unforgettable.
I’ve done the research so you don’t have to — compared automatic tables, figured out what’s actually worth your money, and tracked down the accessories that make a real difference. I’ll share my honest takes, my favorite finds, and yes, some wine recommendations along the way. Because that part is completely non-negotiable.
I spent most of my career in training and development — which basically means I’ve spent decades figuring out how to explain complicated things in ways that actually make sense to real humans. Turns out that’s incredibly useful when you’re trying to explain Mahjong to a nervous beginner at their first game night.
I live in Phoenix, Arizona, which means I play Mahjong in glorious air conditioning approximately 10 months of the year. Zero complaints.

Fair question! I’m not a Mahjong professional. I’m not sponsored by any table brand. I’m just someone who got deeply into this game, went down every rabbit hole, did all the research, and thought — someone should write this down in a way that’s actually fun to read.
Some links on this site are affiliate links, mostly through Wayfair and Amazon. If you buy something through a link, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend things I’d genuinely tell my actual Mahjong girlfriends about — and I’ll always tell you the downsides too. Honest is the only way I know how to be.
